Would you like to live and work in China for a longer period of time? And would you like to completely immerse yourself in the Chinese culture while at the same time earn a living?

Working in China an English teacher is a great way to realize this! As an English teacher you will teach about 24 – 30 hours per week, and besides this you will have time to prepare the classes, and of course to discover the local surroundings.

The minimum period is six months. Your level of English has to be good, especially your oral level of English, and of course you have to enjoy teaching! You’re expected to have a TEFL certificate (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). You can get this certificate a.o. by following an online course, e.g. through Joho (www.joho.nl). Depending on your experience your salary will be between 400 – 600 euros per month. In many cases housing is also provided.

There are teaching opportunities at universities and high schools, as well as at specialized language institutes, both in the big cities and in the small country side cities. It all depends on the demand at that moment. It is therefore necessary to enroll for this program at least two months before the actual start!

In large cities such as Shanghai and Beijing the opportunities for non-native English speakers are limited. However, there are many interesting cities such as Xi’an and Tianjin that offer many opportunities for non-native speakers!

Before you start working as a teacher, you will first follow a two-week Chinese language course and an introduction workshop Chinese culture with us in Beijing. In this way you will start your job well prepared! 

Start dates

Fixed start dates: September and January.

Because most universities and high schools start their semesters in September and January there are most opportunities in this period. You will follow the two-week language course in the period right before your teaching job starts.
